Lovin’ up Lunapads
It's a virtual lovefest right now between we makers of menstrual alternatives! My counterpart over at Lunapads , Madeleine Shaw, just posted about me and GladRags and I have to say right up front I did not pay her to write it!!! But I would have in a heartbeat because it is glowing and my head swelled to an enormous size as I was reading it. Read it here. I'm lucky to have her as a friend.
And while it's kind of weird to recommend a competitor's blog to our customers and readers, I have to say Madeleine is worth reading anytime, on any subject. As I have told her before, sometimes I feel like she has gone inside my head and taken my swirling thoughts and put them down into cohesive, inspired, and sometimes downright poetical blog posts. That's because she has the pulse of what is going on in the world and especially the world of women and the environment. I usually have two reactions to her posts: 1) wow, that's right on; and 2) Damn! Why didn't I write that!
So thank you, Madeleine, for your kind and generous words about me and for talking about our rather strange but happy competitor/compatriot relationship. And more than that, for your always thoughtful and thought-provoking words on important topics in our world.

I am so glad to see the solidarity amongst the makers of reusable menstrual products. I have to say that I use both Lunapads, Lunapanties, and Gladrags and without the existance of both companies I would never have made the switch. I have a very light cycle, so anything larger than a Lunapads mini-pad is just too bulky for the day and the liner on top design allows me to wear them out without carrying too much bulk in my purse, but at night the over the top liners come loose because I am an active sleeper and the only thing that will stay in place for me is a Gladrags day pad. I love the Lunapanties as comfortable backup protection around the house, but when I am going out I don’t want to have to wear or carry soiled underwear, and the plastic snaps on their liners keep popping loose. The Gladrags liners are the only thing that stays on and is comfortable outside. I also use sea pearls from Pandora’s, Gladrags cleaning products and some Wallypop products.
I strongly encourage any woman to try several different brands of product and mix and match what works best for her because when someone finds a mix of products that make them comfortable they are more likely to keep using those products and not go back to disposables. A lot of big companies are focused on getting the consumer to buy their product regardless of whether it is the best product for that consumer. They say negative things about their competition because they are worried about getting that initial sale. Even though their first quarter sales may be up as a result of this kind of marketing, ultimately this can lose customers for everyone because they figure if they hated product A and product B, C and D are worse they will just not use those products at all. It is reassuring to see your companies setting aside the bottom line and working together for the ultimate goal – less waste, a healthier planet and happier women.

You hit the nail on the head with that comment. We are all different and have different lifestyles and needs. It’s nice to have some choices. Recently I was having a discussion with someone who really wanted me to pin down why our products are better. I named off the features of both and finally had to say one is not better than the other, they are just different.
Thanks for taking the time to comment, Anne, and for being an explorer and consumer of alternative menstrual products of all kinds!
